Position Overview

The Director of Business Development is responsible for driving Nova Solvers' go-to-market strategy and accelerating growth across the defense, intelligence, civil space, and commercial space sectors. This executive-level position oversees business development, capture, strategic partnerships, and customer engagement while expanding the company's presence across DoD, IC, NASA, and major aerospace and defense contractors.

The successful candidate will identify strategic growth opportunities, develop executive-level customer relationships, lead capture efforts, and position Nova Solvers' advanced technologies to address emerging mission requirements. Working closely with executive leadership and engineering teams, this individual will help shape product strategy, influence technology investments, and drive long-term corporate growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Nova Solvers' go-to-market, business development, and sales strategy across defense, IC, civil space, and commercial markets.
  • Lead end-to-end capture activities including opportunity identification, qualification, capture planning, competitive analysis, teaming strategy, proposal development, contract negotiations, and post-award growth.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue opportunities across FAR contracts, OTAs, SBIR, STTR, BAAs, IDIQs, and other federal acquisition pathways.
  • Develop account strategies and campaign plans aligned with priority customers, Programs of Record, strategic initiatives, and emerging mission requirements.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior government officials, PEOs, PMs, acquisition organizations, defense primes, commercial space companies, and strategic industry partners.
  • Establish and negotiate teaming agreements, CRADAs, strategic partnerships, pilot programs, and long-term customer engagements.
  • Partner closely with engineering and executive leadership to translate customer requirements into differentiated technical solutions, product roadmaps, and winning proposals.
  • Lead responses to RFIs, RFPs, BAAs, SBIR and STTR solicitations, and other competitive procurements while coordinating engineering, contracts, pricing, finance, and executive leadership.
  • Maintain a disciplined CRM pipeline including opportunity forecasting, bookings, revenue projections, and business development metrics.
  • Provide VOC insights that influence product strategy, technology investments, competitive positioning, and long-term corporate planning.
  • Develop annual bookings forecasts, revenue projections, and strategic growth plans aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Represent Nova Solvers at executive customer meetings, technical demonstrations, government briefings, industry conferences, trade shows, and customer engagements.
  • Monitor defense, IC, civil space, and commercial market trends to identify future growth opportunities and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in business development, capture management, program management, engineering, or government acquisition within the aerospace, defense, or national security sectors.
  • Demonstrated success identifying, qualifying, capturing, and growing government and commercial business opportunities.
  • Extensive knowledge of DoD, IC, USSF, SSC, NRO, NASA, DARPA, AFRL, SDA, MDA, and other federal acquisition organizations.
  • Strong understanding of the Defense Acquisition System, FAR, DFARS, and competitive procurement processes.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior government officials, defense primes, commercial partners, and strategic industry stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting complex aerospace programs involving spacecraft, avionics, onboard computing, payloads, sensing systems, communications, ISR, EO/IR, RF technologies, autonomy, or other advanced mission systems.
  • Demonstrated success leading capture efforts from opportunity identification through contract award.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams involving engineering, contracts, finance, manufacturing, and executive leadership.
  • Strong strategic planning, pipeline management, and market analysis skills with a demonstrated record of meeting or exceeding growth objectives.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and executive presentation skills.
  • High ownership, initiative, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50 percent.
  • Active TS/SCI

Preferred

  • Existing relationships within USSF, SSC, NRO, SDA, AFRL, DARPA, NASA, MDA, or major aerospace and defense primes.
  • Experience supporting spacecraft, modular avionics, onboard computing, payloads, RF systems, EO/IR systems, or advanced sensing technologies.
  • Demonstrated success winning contracts valued at more than $10M.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related technical discipline.
  • Master's degree or MBA preferred.

Work Location

This position is based in Torrance, California. Hybrid work flexibility is available based on business needs. For exceptional candidates, a fully remote work arrangement may be considered. Regular travel throughout the United States of up to 50 percent is expected.
