Nova Solvers Demonstrates Closed-Loop Control on Modular Spacecraft Avionics

Nova Solvers today announced the successful demonstration of closed-loop control using its modular spacecraft avionics at the company's engineering and integration facility in Torrance, California. The milestone validates the integration of the company's avionics hardware, embedded firmware, and real-time control software while advancing the development of its next-generation spacecraft electronics.

The demonstration integrated Nova Solvers' avionics hardware, embedded firmware, and control software into a fully operational closed-loop system. Sensor data was processed in real time, enabling continuous execution of control commands while maintaining stable operation throughout the test. The results verified reliable communication between hardware modules, deterministic software execution, and robust system performance under representative operating conditions.

Closed-loop control is a fundamental capability for modern spacecraft, supporting functions such as attitude control, propulsion, thermal management, power regulation, and payload operations. This achievement establishes a foundation for future subsystem integration and mission-specific applications across a broad range of government and commercial spacecraft.

Designed for ESPA-class and larger spacecraft operating in LEO/MEO/GEO and beyond, Nova Solvers' modular avionics provide a scalable, high-performance foundation for demanding, long-duration missions while simplifying spacecraft integration.

The modular architecture is designed to provide maximum flexibility throughout system development. Nova Solvers offers an optional firmware and software baseline to simplify hardware bring-up and early integration, while customers remain free to develop their own flight software or adapt the provided framework using documented interfaces. The hardware architecture follows the same philosophy, allowing mission teams to populate the system with Nova Solvers modules, customer-developed 3U VPX cards, or third-party VPX hardware as mission requirements dictate. This open architecture eliminates vendor lock-in and gives customers the freedom to build a solution that best fits their technical, operational, and programmatic requirements.

The demonstration represents another step in the continued maturation of Nova Solvers' avionics product portfolio. Development efforts will continue with additional subsystem integration, environmental testing, and mission-level validation as the platform progresses toward flight applications.
